After a full season of play and the conclusion of the NCAA Division I Women’s Singles and Doubles Championships in Champaign, Ill., the final ITA National Singles and Doubles Rankings have been released today on Thursday, June 2nd, 2022.
Texas’s Peyton Stearns will end the season as the ITA National Player of the Year which is given annually to the Men’s and Women’s players who end the season ranked No. 1 in the final National Singles Rankings.
Just a sophomore, Stearns stepped onto the collegiate tennis scene in the 2020-21 season and put together one of the best freshman campaigns in Texas history. Going 13-4 from the Longhorns No. 1 position in 2021, Stearns showed that this was just the begging of her development as in 2022 she would go 24-2 from the No. 1 position, including 17 ranked wins.
At the 2022 NCAA Singles Championship, Stearns earned the No. 2 overall seed and quickly showed why she earned such high honors by breezing through the competition throughout each round of play. Taking down some of the top players in Division I Women’s college tennis, Stearns took home the 2022 NCAA Singles National Championship just days after winning the team championship with Texas.
In doubles, the NC State duo of Jaeda Daniel and Nell Miller will end the season as the No. 1 ranked pair in the country. Ranked as one of the top teams in the country throughout the season, Daniel and Miller made it to the Semifinals of the 2021 Women’s All-America Championship before reaching the pinnacle of college tennis as a doubles team by winning the 2022 NCAA Doubles Championship.
