2018 Oracle ITA Masters Showcases Depth of Collegiate Tennis Talent

TEMPE, Ariz. – With the 2018 Oracle ITA Masters just one week away, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and Oracle are taking another look into the competitor lists in preparation for next week’s event, which runs from September 20-23, and is hosted by Pepperdine University and Malibu Racquet Club.

The women’s field of 32 features seven players that can be found in the Oracle ITA Division I Preseason National Singles Rankings. Makenna Jones of North Carolina, who received the Oracle Wild Card into the Masters, leads the way with a No. 2 national ranking. Miami’s Estela Perez-Somarriba, the 2018 ITA Women’s Player To Watch, is the No. 3-ranked player.

Fernanda Contreras of Vanderbilt, the 2017 Riviera ITA Women’s All-American Singles Champion, holds a No. 7 ranking, while UCLA’s Jada Hart (No. 15), Washington State’s Michaela Bayerlova (No. 17), Michigan’s Kate Fahey (No. 18) and Idaho’s Marianna Petrei (No. 20) are also slated to compete for the first ITA National Championship of the 2018-19 season.

Mitch Harper of Virginia Tech, the 2017 Milwaukee Tennis Classic champion, enters the Oracle ITA Masters with a No. 12 ranking, and the men’s draw features three Top 20 players.
