PENSACOLA, FL – For the first time in Florida Southern College women’s tennis history the Moccasins have defeated a top-five team. The Mocs (2-0) upset the No. 2 Argonauts of West Florida (0-1) by a score of 4-3 on Saturday, the first top-seven opponent that women’s tennis has defeated since the 2014 season when they won 5-4 over Saint Leo.
The win is the second in the past two years over a top-10 team (6-3 win over No. 9 Rollins last season) and the first time that the Moccasins have defeated the Argonauts since 2013 when they won 5-4 in Pensacola over then No. 9 West Florida. The No. 2 Argonauts are the highest-ranked opponent head coach Trish Riddell has beaten in her career at Florida Southern. Previously Ridell’s squads had defeated No. 7 West Florida in 2011 and No. 7 Saint Leo in 2014 by scores of 5-4.
