Freddy Mesmer Named Assistant Coach at Georgetown

Freddy Mesmer has been named assistant coach of the men's and women's tennis teams at Georgetown University.

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach Courtney Dolehide is proud to announce the addition of Freddy Mesmer as new assistant coach for men’s and women’s tennis for the 2019-20 school year. Mesmer lands on the Hilltop after a successful career competing for the Virginia Tech Hokies. 

“The Georgetown community and I are excited to welcome Freddy to the Hilltop.” said Dolehide. “The team will benefit from his enthusiasm and elite tennis experience. He understands how special of a place Georgetown is and is ready to get to work with the tennis teams to strive toward BIG EAST Championships.”  

Mesmer, a Maryland native, has been an assistant tennis professional at The Edgemoor Club in Bethesda, Maryland since 2015.  Mesmer also took on the same role in 2016 at Bethesda Country Club in Bethesda from May until September of 2016.

He spent a good portion of the 2016 summer as a professional hitting partner for 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist, Monica Puig.  

While at Virginia Tech, Mesmer competed for the Hokies from 2015-19, competing in both singles and doubles matches. He was awarded team MVP his junior season going 21-8 on the year in singles matches. Mesmer was a part of three NCAA Tournament appearances for the Hokies. He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in multimedia journalism.  

“I am honored to be part of the Georgetown community especially because of the rich history within my own family.” said Mesmer I am eager to work with all of the players we have and the ones coming in. I think Coach Dolehide has done a great job of setting this program on a good path for success and I am excited to be able to contribute towards our teams goals.“
