Day Two of Oracle ITA Masters Sees Local Players Advance

MALIBU, Calif. – 
The second day of the Oracle ITA Masters produced mixed results as the majority of the top seeds advanced and included a couple lower seeds reached the semifinals during Friday’s play at the Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine University.

Illinois’ Alex Brown, seeded No. 12 in the men’s main draw, defeated No. 5 seed Matias Soto of Baylor in straights in the second before recording a 6-4, 6-4 victory over No. 20 Corrado Summaria (Pepperdine), 6-4, 6-4.

The semifinals will have feature a Southern California feel as two men and three women from Pepperdine, UCLA and USC advanced.

Others advancing to the men’s semifinals include top seed Keegan Smith of UCLA, second-seeded Daniel Cukierman of USC and No. 4 seed Jack Lin (Columbia).

The top three seeded players on the women’s side, No. 1 Natasha Subhash (Virginia), No. 2 Abbey Forbes (UCLA) and No. 3 Ashley Lahey (Pepperdine), all advanced to the semifinals, along with No. 5 seed Jada Hart (UCLA).

In the mixed doubles semifinals, the number No. 4 seeded team of Aguilar (Texas A&M) and Jokic (Georgia) defeated the top-seeded and UCLA duo of Smith and Forbes, 8-6, while Baylor’s Lah and Virginia’s Shubash advanced to the semifinals after defeating Habib (Texas A&M) and Graham (UNC), 8-3.

The Oracle ITA Masters continues Saturday with the men’s and women’s singles consolation quarterfinals, men’s and women’s singles main draw semifinals and the mixed doubles championships scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at both the Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine. The mixed doubles championships is slated for 7 p.m. at the Malibu Racquet Club
