MALIBU, Calif. – Pepperdine senior Ashley Lahey and USC junior Daniel Cukierman won individual singles titles during the final day of the Oracle ITA Masters Sunday at the Malibu Racquet Club.
Lahey, seeded fifth in the tournament, defeated UCLA senior Jada Hart, 6-3, 6-0, while USC junior and No. 2 seed Daniel Cukierman came back from down a set to defeat UCLA junior and No. 1 seed Keegan Smith, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Lahey became the first Pepperdine woman to claim the Oracle ITA Masters title and the third Waves player in the last four years to reach the final, joining Luisa Stefani and Evgeniya Levashova, who advanced to the championship match in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
Cukierman becomes the third straight USC player to win the event, joining Brandon Holt and Laurens Verboven, who captured singles titles in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
Penn’s Iuliia Bryzgalova defeated Sahaja Yamalapalli of Sam Houston State, 6-4, 6-1 in the women’s consolation final and Mercer’s Olivier Stuart rallied from a set down to defeat San Diego’s Gui Osorio, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the men’s consolation final.
ESPNU will re-air the main draw finals on Oct. 1 (women) and Oct. 2 (men) beginning at 1 p.m. (PT) both days.
The next major fall collegiate event gets underway Oct. 5 when pre-qualifying for the Saint Francis ITA All-American Championships open in Tulsa, Okla. The All-American Championships run Oct. 5-13.
