UNC Greensboro is seeking a qualified candidate for a part-time Assistant Tennis Coach Position for Women for the 2019-2020 season. This position will assist the Women’s Tennis program with the organizing, planning and coaching of the Women’s Tennis team. Main responsibilities will include assisting the head coach with on court practices (both team and individual) and matches and work within the Southern Conference and NCAA rules and regulations
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is administratively housed in the Office of the Chancellor. The University’s seventeen teams compete as members of NCAA Division I and the Southern Conference. Approximately 250 students are involved as athletes, managers, trainers, statisticians, cheerleaders, etc. The Assistant Tennis Coach is the person responsible for administering the year-round activities of the women’s tennis program. The Assistant Coach is directly responsible for answering to the Head Coach in all matters related to the operation of this program.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Coach is responsible for handling game and practice coaching assignments throughout the year as well as supervising out-of-season conditioning programs, skill and technical development for approximately 10 students. Recruiting student-athletes is an essential element of the Assistant Coach’s responsibility. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: player identification, correspondence, visit coordination and academic eligibility. The Assistant Coach will use discretion and personal judgement in the assessment of talent and the recommendation for scholarship assistance. The development and coordination of recruiting is an ongoing activity requiring travel during season. Once the student-athlete has matriculated, the Assistant Coach is primary in the weekly monitoring of the student-athlete’s academic progress by recording any grades, papers, etc. on a regular basis. The Assistant Coach will communicate with the Spartan Academic Support Services (SASS) personnel and assist in student-athlete’s academic action plans. Other Administrative duties related to this position would include scheduling, travel arrangements, speaking engagements, alumni relations, as well as assisting with Summer Sports School.
The Assistant Coach’s authority would be deferred to the Head Coach in all major decisions. However, in the absence of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach would assume full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the program. University policies and procedures in conjunction with NCAA Rules and regulations must be followed at all times.
The Assistant Coach reports to the Head Coach who is responsible to the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities & Game Operations.
As an employee of the Intercollegiate Athletics Department, the individual will be actively involved in relationships with the following offices: Admissions, Academic Advising and Financial Aid as well as all academic departments across the campus. Knowledge of NCAA Rules and regulations is a prerequisite for this position.
A bachelor’s degree is required. Prior participation and/or coaching experience Prior collegiate playing/coaching experience are preferred. Excellent communication and organization skills and the ability to travel with team when possible to away matches/tournaments. The position also requires someone with initiative and an energy level that will enable the individual to work long hours. The position does include evening and weekend assignments.
