Seward County Community College freshman Gabriel Ortiz finished atop the final 2019 Oracle ITA Junior College National Rankings. And it was the ASA Miami duo of Gustavo Cruz and Tao Castillo that were the top-ranked men’s doubles team.
Ortiz entered the ITA Cup after receiving one of the last at-large bids. He then went on to defeat the draw’s No. 3, No. 2 and No. 1 seeds to capture the ITA Cup and earn a berth into the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. In the first round, the Seward County freshman defeated NCAA Division I Nico Mostardi of Cleveland State. The Seward County Community College freshman was later named the UTR/ITA National Junior College Player of the Month for his play in October.
The ASA Miami doubles team of Cruz and Castillo captured the men’s ITA Cup Junior College and ITA Cup doubles championship.
