Eagles Claim Division III National Indoor Title

The one-seed and the two-seed were destined for the ITA Division III National Men’s Team Indoor Championship. In a thriller, the Eagles of Emory University claimed title over the Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 5-3.

The No. 1 ranked Emory Eagles were firing on all cylinders coming out of doubles play. The Eagles pair of Andrew Esses and Hassan Kenawi toppled Stags Daniel Park and Nic Meister, 8-3. CMS evened things up as Ian Freer and Nikolai Parodi claimed victory over Hayden Cassone and Antonio Mora, 8-7 (7-2). Nevertheless, Emory came back as No. 2 doubles pair Alec Rabinowitz and Will Wanner defeated Jack Katzman and Robert Liu, 8-6.

Singles play started off hot as the Stags, 9-1 on the season, claimed the first win. At No. 1 singles, Nikolai Parodi won in straight sets over Hayden Cassone, 6-0, 6-2 to even things back out. Finishing in order, No. 3 singles Nic Meister took down Andrew Esses, 7-5, 6-0. Emory began the bounce back when No. 2 singles Antonio Mora claimed victory over Jack Katzman, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. With the Championship match at 3-3, Emory answered at No. 4 singles as Mark Sverdlov won 7-5, 1-6, 6-2 over Ian Freer to give them the 4-3 advantage.

To claim the Championship, Emory’s Rex Serituk was able to get it done with a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) win over Robert Liu, leaving No. 6 singles Hassan Kenawi and Daniel Park unfinished.

The nationally ranked No. 1 Emory Eagles won their ninth indoor title in the last 20 years.
