Leveraging your College Tennis Experience for Career Success [Webinar]

Employers often recognize the value of the student-athlete experience when hiring. Skills such as time management, performing under pressure, working within a team setting are all vital to the success of any organization. This webinar allows you to learn from three former student-athletes who successfully translated their sporting success into their chosen career field and who have hired former college tennis players themselves.

Mike Byrant, Operating Manager of Knox Capital, Kate McKegney, COO of The Cannon Project, and Dave Mullins, Managing Director of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association will provide some lessons from their career path, and also what qualities they believe employers such as themselves and many others are looking for in their future employees, so that you as a tennis player can leverage that experience when pursuing your career.

About Mike Bryant

Mike was trained inside Fortune 100 settings gaining sales, operations, general management and M&A experiences.  This foundation led him to lead successful start-up and growth companies. Finally, through Knox Capital, where he is a Partner, Mike invests and advises tech enabled service companies.  

Mike completed an Executive MBA program in Product Development at MIT’s Sloan School of Business and has a BBA from University of St. Francis where he played intercollegiate tennis and is currently a member of the Board of Trustees.  Mike resides in Riverside, IL where he enjoys spending time with his family, continues to play competitive tennis and works with civic organizations focused on underprivileged youth. Mike was on the Chicago launch committee for Cradles to Crayons which provides children from birth to age 12, living in low-income and homeless situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play.

About Kate McKegney

Katy McKegney is the Co-founder of The Cannon Project where she connects high performing individuals with opportunities at high growth tech companies. She has over a decade of experience building and leading teams in the media and tech space. With The Cannon Project, Katy helps individuals understand their options within the tech landscape and navigate hiring processes to find a satisfying career path.

About Dave Mullins

Dave Mullins is the Managing Director of Community Engagement and Coach Empowerment at the ITA. Dave played college tennis at Fresno State, receiving All-America honors and an undergraduate degree in Business and Finance. He spent 12 years as a college tennis coach at Depaul University, Northwestern University and the University of Oklahoma. Dave has completed a masters degree in Education from the University of Oklahoma and also holds another masters degree in Sports & Exercise Psychology from Ulster University (Ireland). He currently sits on the board of directors for the Irish Tennis Federation and is a Guinness World Record holder.
