Part-Time Coach & A.C.E. Teacher – Neighborhood Youth Outreach
The Junior Tennis Champions Center is seeking a Part-Time Coach and Academic Creative Engagement (A.C.E.) Teacher to join our team and assist with the Neighborhood Youth Outreach program.
About JTCC:
JTCC (Junior Tennis Champions Center) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to transforming lives through tennis. Founded in 1999, JTCC was selected by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) as the first Regional Training Center for its high-performance program in 2008. Today, more than 150 students are enrolled in the full-time and after-school year-round academy programs, and more than 500 participate in the Junior Development pathway.
In 2009, JTCC launched its Neighborhood Youth Outreach (NYO) program to introduce tennis to local youth through onsite instruction in underserved communities. Since its inception, the NYO program has reached over 6,000 youth.
JTCC introduced a new academic initiative to its NYO program in 2013. The Academic Creative Engagement (ACE) curriculum is a nationally accredited, out-of-school time program designed to support and encourage academic achievement, health, wellness, and life skills.
Position Details:
The Coach and A.C.E. Teacher will deliver tennis and academic instruction to youth ages 5-11 enrolled in the NYO program at various locations throughout the D.C. metro area.
Job responsibilities include:
- Coaching and/or teaching 10-20 hours per week (approximately 4 – 6 pm, Monday – Friday) to NYO participants
- Ensuring smooth operations at outreach sites through equipment set-up and cleanup, taking of attendance, and delivery of reports for Outreach Manager
- Cultivating athletic, educational and social growth through coaching and mentorship • Inviting positive experiences by caring and connecting with players and parents
Preferred traits and qualifications:
- Background in tennis and/or background in teaching/tutoring
- Experience working with youth
- Passion for equal access and opportunity
- Strong communication skills
Additional Information:
- Start date: September 2021
- This is a nine-week position with the opportunity to extend to future sessions
- Travel is required to and from outreach sites. Access to a car is preferred as not all sites are metro-convenient.
Compensation:
Hourly rate is commensurate with experience. Coach/Teacher receives one hour of paid travel time per day.
