The Intercollegiate Tennis Association is excited to welcome back Dan Johnson as the organization’s Director of Communications, Marketing and Advanced Media. Johnson, who served as the Director of Communications and Marketing from August 2015 to January 2019, began his current duties with the ITA on September 8.

“Dan played an integral role in helping to develop and implement the communications and marketing strategies at the beginning of my tenure at the ITA,” said ITA CEO Timothy Russell. “I am happy to welcome him back to the ITA and look forward to working with him to further enhance and elevate the profile of college tennis and the ITA.”

As Director of Communications, Marketing and Advanced Media, Johnson will work directly with Russell on conceiving, designing, and executing a new communications, marketing and advanced media plan. He’ll also provide departmental leadership and oversight and serve as a member of the ITA’s senior leadership team.

“I’m thrilled to be returning to the ITA, an organization that enabled me to serve our sport, while growing and developing as a professional,” said Johnson. “To be entrusted to set the organization’s communications and marketing vision, and tell the stories of the coaches, student-athletes and teams across all levels of college tennis, are great responsibilities, and ones that I’ll treat with the utmost care. I thank Tim and the Association for this opportunity. I look forward to re-connecting with the entire ITA staff and many friendly faces across the college tennis landscape.”

In addition to his previous stint with the ITA, Johnson’s experience in the sports industry includes working for three years at the Mountain West Conference as an Assistant Director of Communications, and a 13-year career as a sports journalist and editor.
