Sights now turn from the Kickoff Weekend to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships as two National Championships will be up for grabs


As one of the most anticipated college tennis events of the season, the 14th annual ITA Kickoff Weekend lived up to the hype once again this year providing fans a glimpse at some of the top tennis from around the country.

Totaling 120 matches over the span of four days, this year’s Kickoff Weekend featured twenty Top-25 matchups on both the Men’s and Women’s side of play with many underdogs prevailing on the weekend.

Old Dominion was the true cinderella story on the women’s side of play, coming in as the No. 4 seed in the Atlanta Regional before taking down Georgia Tech (No. 12) and Ole Miss.

With the two wins, the Monarchs now advance to their first-ever ITA National Team Indoor Championship which will be played February 11-14, in Madison, Wisconsin.

Oklahoma joins Old Dominion as first-time Indoor Championship attendees in 2022 after taking down Furman and Duke (No. 6) in the Durham Women’s Regional.

Reigning ITA Women’s Indoor Champions, North Carolina, will have an opportunity to defend their title in Madison after cruising to two 4-0 victories in the Chapel Hill Women’s Regional this past weekend.

On the Men’s side of play, three host teams fell this past weekend as Stanford, Ohio State, and Kentucky all fought their way into the National Team Indoor Championship taking down host teams in their respective regional final matches.

One of these teams, Ohio State, took down reigning Men’s National Team Indoor Champions North Carolina in the Chapel Hill Regional final, ending the Tar Heels chances to repeat as Indoor Champions.

The SEC will be well represented in Seattle, as seven of the fifteen advancing men’s teams come from the conference.

National Team Indoor action will begin February 11-14 in Madison, Wisconsin, with the Women taking center stage before the Men begin play the following week on February 18-21 from Seattle, Washington.

Baylor, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, USC, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Virginia, Wake Forest, Washington (host)
