In the opening round of play from the 2022 ITA DIII Women’s National Team Indoor Championship, the top seeds flexed their muscles with all four top-seeded teams advancing to today’s Semifinal play.

Getting the action going early, both Pomona-Pitzer (No. 2) and Chicago (No. 3) came out victorious in the morning session of play taking down Kenyon (No. 7) and MIT (No. 6) en route to the Semifinals.

Pomona-Pitzer was in control the entire way on Friday as they took all three doubles points from Kenyon before riding the momentum into singles play where they capped off the clean sweep winning 9-0 in the match.

In what was the closest match of the day, Chicago grinded out a win over MIT picking up two of the three doubles points before sealing the victory with singles wins on courts No. 1, No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5.

In the afternoon session we saw even more dominance from the Tournaments top-seeds as Emory (No. 1) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (No. 4) each picked up 9-0 victories in their opening round matchups.

Emory, the reigning NCAA Champions, showed why they were the top-seeded team at the 2022 DIII Women’s National Team Indoor Championship as they took down hosts Centre College (No. 8) 9-0 to move to the Semifinals.

Similarly, CMS showed why they belong in this year’s Tournament as they took all three doubles points from Carnegie Mellon (No. 5) before picking up six straight set victories in singles play to secure the sweep.

These four advancing teams will now move onto the Semifinals where they will play for a spot in the 2022 ITA DIII Women’s National Team Indoor Championship Match.
