Jenzabar Position:   

Summary: Under the direction of the Head Coach the GA will assist in player development, training, administrative and program management of a nationally ranked NAIA tennis program and student-athletes at Cardinal Stritch University. Selected individual will also be a part of prospective student-athlete recruitment and must be able to effectively communicate his/her understanding of the game. The graduate assistant will also support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Assist in day to day operations as 1st assistant to Head Coach                     
  • Assist with each day’s practice. Being able to hit in when necessary.
  • Assist with recruiting/scouting prospective tennis players
  • Help retain current players through designed programs/ activities
  • Keep the recruiting database up to date
  • Oversee lifting/ conditioning
  • Assist with planning lifting/ conditioning/ physical activities
  • Monitor and stay within the parameters of the designed budget. All purchases must be approved by the Head Coach
  • Assist creating social media posts before matches
  • Keep social media active during the match. Up to date scores on twitter. Photos from the day on Instagram.
  • Be a positive role model for the students and monitor discipline procedures.
  • Coordinate team travel and meal plans for trips
  • Scout opponents
  • Encourage/ monitor attendance and academic performance as directed by the head coach/ department head
  • Keep up an up to date knowledge of the NAIA
  • Conduct yourself in a professional manner and display good sportsmanship at all times

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Academic monitoring of team members
  • Be able to run and coordinate a fitness/ conditioning session

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree required
  • Experience having played college tennis at a high level, preferably the NCAA D1/D2/ NAIA level
  • Previous coaching experience is an additional asset
  • The ideal candidate would be someone who desires to be a college coach using the degree earned to further that pursuit. 

Language Skills:

  • Strong verbal and superior written communication skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
  • Ability to effectively interact in all situations with faculty, staff and other University stakeholders

Mathematical Skills: 

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts
  • Ability to use a calculator

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to manage stress with multiple competing priorities while maintaining a positive attitude and affect.
  • High energy level, self-motivated, and self-directed to design and complete complex projects.
  • Skilled in independent decision-making and critical thinking
  • Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in creating social media posts. Canva is used
  • Be able to run a professional social media account including live scores on Twitter, Pictures posts to Instagram during match days.
  • Microsoft XCEL
  • Microsoft Word

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Coaching qualifications are a plus
  • A full US drivers license. Must be cleared by the University to drive a 15 seater van.
