Job Description

The position reports to the Head Men’s Tennis Coach and will assist in all aspects of the men’s tennis program from coaching to daily operations. The position requires a strict understanding and adherence to all NCAA and Horizon League rules and regulations. The position also requires travel, working directly with student-athletes and the athletic department at YSU, and advanced coaching ability.


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Diligent work ethic, integrity, and reliability
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Desire to learn and grow
  • Previous college or professional coaching experience, minimum 1 year, preferred Division I
  • Experience playing at the college or professional level, preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Experience recruiting athletes, preferred
  • Excellent administrative and organization skills, attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to support student-athletes in their quest to achieve excellence on the court and in the classroom
  • Capacity to establish good rapport with student-athletes, faculty, staff, administrators and the community



  • Assist in planning practices and individual player progressions
  • Continue to develop and enhance technical and tactical coaching expertise
  • Assist in all activities with the team including on-court coaching, individuals, team practice, matches, fall tournaments, and team events and meetings
  • Oversee video analysis


  • Maintain and use database for tracking communication with recruits
  • Oversee regular communication with potential student-athletes 
  • Establish strong relationships with coaches around the world to help identify and recruit top student-athletes
  • Travel to tournaments and events as assigned by Head Coach throughout the year
  • Assist with official and unofficial visits


  • Oversee all equipment orders for team 
  • Monitor and adhere to all guidelines in regards to budget and spending
  • Assist in running team events including home tournaments and all team and individual travel for away events.
  • Participate in athletic department activities as needed
  • Ensure the rules and regulations of the NCAA are followed at all times
  • Assist with all aspects of operating a Division I athletic program
  • Represent men’s tennis at athletic department, donor/alumni and community events as directed by Head Coach


  • Oversee monitoring of social media accounts
  • Attend a limited amount of team fitness sessions 
  • Oversee and train our student workers (stringers) and managers 
  • Oversee monitoring student-athlete academic performance
