ROME, GA. – After battling it out in Regional Tournaments across the country over these past few weeks, hundreds of the top Division II, III, NAIA, and JUCO Men’s and Women’s players all converged in Rome, Georgia for the playing of the 2022 ITA Cup.
Surviving some rainy conditions on day one from the Rome Tennis Center, day two of the ITA Cup brought lots of sunshine and exciting play as players punched their tickets to the Main Draw Finals and Semifinals through play today.
Action continues tomorrow as the Champions of the JUCO and Division III Singles and Doubles Main Draws will reach completion. For all other divisions, Semifinal play will be next up on Saturday with the Championship Matches falling on Sunday.

Division II
In the women’s singles draw, it was a day full of upsets as three of the top four seeds were beaten leaving only Deniz Khazan (Barry) as the only remaining seeded player in the Main Draw. Joining Khazan in the Semifinals are Sofia Smagina (Washburn), Prinkle Singh (Charleston), Elodie Busson (Hawaii-Pacific) who will all battle it out in tomorrow’s Semifinals.
Luca Mack is the only remaining seeded player in the men’s singles draw as the No. 1 seed took down Dani Ortiz of Harding in today’s Quarterfinal match. Across the remainder of the men’s singles draw, Teodor Zlatar (Harding), Alexander Leischner (Point Loma) and Ruben Fonga (Tiffin) all won hard-fought Quarterfinal matches to move on.
Across both doubles draws, the top-seeds on the men’s side of play have found great success, while on the women’s side, many unseeded team’s have taken down the tournament’s best as only one seeded team remains. Edgar Destouet and partner Tom Niklas Zeuch of UIndy are the only unseesed team remaining on the men’s side, taking down Javier Cueto Ramos and Santiago Perez of Columbus State 7-5, 1-6, 10-7 today.
Division III
In what was another busy day of Division III competition, the championship matches were set as competitors went through one round of singles play and two rounds of doubles play.
Singles play saw the University of Chicago’s Sylwia Mikos advance to the finals where she is set too face Sarah Pertsemlidis of MIT tomorrow. Coming in unseeded, Pertsemlidis has continued her dominant run here in Rome taking down the No. 2 seed from Babson in today’s Semifinal action.
Men’s singles was another draw filled with upsets as Tristan Bradley (Bowdion) took down the top-seeded player in Aiden Drover-Mattinen (RPI), while unseeded Advik Mareedu (CMS) continued his strong play, winning in straight sets to advance to the finals.
The doubles finals were also finalized on Friday as Vishwa Aduru and James Hopper (Case Western Reserve) as well as Derin Acaroglu and Vuk Vuksanovic (Tufts) advance on the men’s side, while Brooke Despriet and Katherine Petty (Sewanee) as well as Claudia Ng and Perene Wang (Chicago) are your finalists on the women’s side.
NAIA
Across NAIA play, Keiser is looking to leave its mark at the ITA Cup placing two singles players in the women’s Semifinals, and one team each into the men’s and women’s doubles Semifinals.
Georgia Gwinnett has also enjoyed some strong play across all draws placing five men’s and women’s players into the Semifinals of various draws.
Top-seeded men’s singles player Perry Gregg (Holy Cross) was taken down today by Georgia Gwinnett’s Paras Dahiya as Dahiya fought back after dropping the first set 1-6 to win 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the match.
JUCO
At the Junior College level, Semifinal play was conducted across both the singles and doubles draws as the finalists were determined for tomorrow’s championship match.
In singles, the top two women’s seeds of Arina Gamretkaia (Hillsborough) and Carol Mora Camacho (Seward) will face off in the finals after pulling out impressive wins in today’s Semifinals. On the men’s side, Takeshi Taco (Cowley) and Diego Dalisay (Tyler) will meet in tomorrow’s finals as another battle between the top-two seeded players in the draw.
For doubles, it will be another Cowley and Tyler matchup on the men’s side as Boruch Skierkier and Bruno Nhavene (Cowley) will take on Naithaolin Golmei and Dan Persson (Tyler). Women’s doubles sees the No. 1 and No. 3 seeded teams face off after Mariia Koroleva and Isid Hernandez (Cowley) took down the No. 2 seeded team from Hillsborough in three sets.
