About The Graduate Program: Smith’s unique graduate program in Exercise and Sport Studies (ESS) is dedicated to preparing individuals to coach women’s collegiate teams. The program connects theory with practice by linking coursework with coaching experiences. Examples of graduate classes taken over the two years include: Exercise Physiology; Biomechanics of Sport; Sport Psychology; Sport Leadership for Coaches; Gender in Sport; Collegiate Recruiting; Legal Issues in Sport.

All students in the program take part in a coaching practicum, which include their responsibilities as an assistant coach. Responsibilities of coaching include, but are not limited to: assisting the head coach with recruiting, planning & directing skill development managing social media accounts, fundraising, and film breakdown.

The master’s program is recognized nationally for its excellence and is accredited through the National Committee for Accreditation of Coaching Education (NCACE).

Description

Work awards and scholarships are available for individuals interested in pursuing a master’s degree with a specialization in coaching at the collegiate level. Candidates should have an undergraduate academic record of high caliber, collegiate playing experience, and past
coaching experience is preferred but not required.

Work award is dependent on the candidate: $0 – $7,000. Scholarships are available with tuition reduced to $5,000 or less.

The deadline for applying to the program is March 1, 2023. The position begins in the summer of 2023 and continues through graduation in May of 2025.
