ST. PETER, MN. – After today’s Quarterfinals of the 2023 ITA Division III Men’s National Team Indoor Championship, matchups have been settled for Semifinal action at the Swanson Tennis Center here in Minnesota.

Friday’s first Quarterfinal play saw Wash U (4) face off against NC Wesleyan (5). Wash U would take a 2-1 lead after doubles and only give up 1 court in singles. On their way to a 5-2 victory, Wash U would see singles wins on courts 2, 3, and 5.

Our second Quarterfinal found SCIAC conference rivals, CMS (3) and Pomona-Pitzer (6), battling in the early afternoon. CMS would take the early advantage in doubles, securing courts 1 and 2, while Pomona would come away with only 1 doubles win on court 3. Hayden Snyder (Pomona-Pitzer) would add a singles win on the board over #1 ranked Advik Mareedu (CMS), while Ethan Lee (Pomona) would add the second and final tally that Pomona-Pitzer would see in singles for the afternoon. CMS would take singles wins on courts 2, 5, and 6 to win the dual-match, 5-3.

Case Western Reserve University (2) VS Emory University (7) would be our third Quarterfinal of the day, with Case Western looking to repeat their run to a National Indoors Title for the second year in a row.

Case Western would take Doubles’ courts 1 and 3, but drop court 2 to the Eagles. As shown throughout the day thus far, the doubles point would be a key factor in the remainder of the match as Case would go on to take 3 singles points on courts 1, 5, and 6, and cruise to a 5-1 victory, setting them up for a Semifinal matchup against CMS (3)

The hometown team and host, Gustavus Adolphus (8), would showcase the end of the evening matchups, going up against the defending NCAA Team Champions, U Chicago (1).

Both teams would trade 8-4 victories with Gustavus taking court 2, and U Chicago taking court 3. The 2-1 advantage would eventually fall to the side of U Chicago after The Maroons would win a tiebreaker on court 1.

Singles action started off strongly for the side of Gustavus as they would go on to take 4 first sets. Gustavus would only convert one of those courts into a straight sets victory, with that being on court 1. U Chicago would take straight sets victories of their own on courts 2 and 3, leaving way for Marek Michulka (U Chicago) to clinch the deciding point on court 6, 3-6 6-2 6-3.
