NICHOLASVILLE, KY – After two days of play at the 2023 ITA Division III Women’s National Team Indoor Championship, it will be Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (1) and UChicago (2) who will meet in tomorrow’s Finals at the Top Seed Tennis Club.

Coming off of an NCAA National Championship in 2022, the Athenas have gotten off to another strong start in 2023, including an impressive 7-2 victory over MIT in today’s Semifinal matchup.

Beginning with doubles, CMS took the advantage early on in the match, winning from courts one and three to head into singles play with a 2-1 lead over the Engineers.

Capitalizing on that momentum, the Athenas rattled off straight-set victories on courts two, four, and six to clinch the match before tacking on another two points from courts one and five to conclude play.

For Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, they return to the Finals for the first time since 2020 when they were crowned National Team Indoor Champions after beating Emory 5-4 in the Championship Match.

In today’s other Semifinal match, UChicago (2) faced off with Pomona-Pitzer (3) for what would be another strong showing for the Maroons, winning 8-1 over the Sagehens to advance to their second-straight National Team Indoor Finals.

Setting the tone from the first serve, UChicago took the lead in doubles, winning on courts one and three to hold the 2-1 lead moving into singles play.

In singles, the Maroons, for the second consecutive day, played a high-level of tennis across all six of their singles positions, winning in straight sets on courts two through six and in a third-set tiebreaker on court one.

UChicago is looking to become the first repeat Division III Women’s National Team Indoor Champions since Emory won three straight Indoor Titles in 2017, 2018, and 2019.

The Finals will commence tomorrow, not before 10:30 am (ET), from the Top Seed Tennis Club. Be sure to keep up with all of the action through the ITA Social Media streams across Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
