UChicago is the Champion Once Again!

NICHOLASVILLE, KY – Championship Sunday, here at the Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, KY, welcomed back 2022 National Team Indoor Champion, University of Chicago, and 2022 NCAA Team Champions, CMS.

In Doubles, Chicago looked as if to take all three courts with break leads on courts 1-3. The Maroons would take a 2-0 lead before giving up #3 doubles in a set-tiebreaker, 7-3. Singles play would start with Chicago up 2-1.

In singles, It was as even as you could imagine, with 3 first sets going the way of CMS, and 3 first sets going the way of Chicago. Nicole Geller (Chicago) would be the first to take a singles win on court 3 after winning 6-3 6-1, providing a 3-1 lead to Chicago.

Caludia Ng (Chicago) would follow shortly with Chicago’s fourth point, as she would take her #6 singles win, 6-4 6-2. Brooke Pederson (Chicago) would be the lone player for Chicago remaining to have won her first set. With CMS close to potentially taking wins on courts 2 and 5, it would be Pederson who would secure the victory for Chicago on court 4, after a 7-5 6-4 win.

This marks Chicago’s second ITA National Team Indoor Championship, winning back-to-back since 2022. Chicago now joins Emory and Johns Hopkins as the only programs to win this event in two straight years.
