Things are continuing to heat up as the field has shrunk from 64 teams to 16 teams after two rounds of play from the 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship.
Across all regionals in the first two rounds, 14 of the top 16 seeds earned their spot into the Super Regionals. This includes seven of the top eight seeds in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
Texas kept its hopes alive for a three-peat as the Longhorns defeated Texas A&M, Corpus Cristi, and San Diego in the opening two rounds. After a slow start, Texas has found its groove as of late but will be up against Pepperdine (9) in the Super Regionals in a rematch of the 2021 NCAA National Championship.
North Carolina, who comes into the Championship as the top seed, kept its hopes for an NCAA National Championship alive. The 2023 ITA National Team Indoor Champions have only lost one match this season and have their eyes set on Orlando for the NCAA National Finals in less than two weeks.
Two unseeded teams made their way into the Super Regionals as Auburn took down Miami (14) in the Second Round, while UCLA upset Duke (6) in the Second Round as well. Both matches came down to a 4-3 finish as Adeline Flach clinched the Super Regional berth on court six for Auburn and Sasha Vagramov clinched the Bruins Super Regional berth from the No. 5 position.
In total, the SEC leads all conferences with five teams represented in the field of 16, while the ACC and Big 12 follow closely behind with three teams apiece.
This Super Regional round will be the final round played on campuses across the country. Teams who win this weekend will earn their spot into the NCAA National Finals in Lake Nona, Florida when a National Champion will be crowned.
