Division II Women's ITA National Coach of the Year

Chad Berryhill from Saint Leo University has been named the 2023 Wilson ITA National Coach of the Year. Coach Berryhill has had yet another tremendous season leading the Saint Leo Women’s Tennis Program. Coach Berryhill led the team to the Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament and had wins over No. 4 Lynn, No. 5 Flagler, No. 9 North Georgia, No. 10 Indianapolis, No. 13 AUM, No. 21 Grand Valley State, No. 23 West Florida, and No. 24 Washburn.


ITA Assistant Coach of the Year

David Jacobs | Indiana University of PA

Division II Men's ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year

David Jacobs from Indiana University of PA has been named the 2023 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year. Jacobs has been a long time volunteer assistant coach at IUP and this year made a much bigger contribution to the program when he unexpectedly stepped in as interim coach, as the fall-season was getting under way. In the past, Jacobs has mostly been involved with on-court coaching. This past September he had to learn every other aspect of coaching a college tennis program on-the-fly during the busy travel-heavy fall season. Jacobs not only managed the program, he mentored the team to a PSAC title, a 10-1 record against regional opponents, and 2 wins in the NCAA Atlantic regional tournament to earn a trip to Orland for the NCAA Round of 16.


ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship

Ashley Penshorn | St. Mary’s University (Texas)

Division II Women's ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership Award

Ashley Penshorn from St. Mary’s University (TX) has been named the 2023 ITA Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award winner. Throughout her career, Penshorn has been an incredible athlete and even more incredible student-athlete at St. Mary’s! This May she graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Data Analytics, finishing with a 3.91 GPA. She is a volunteer on the NCAA Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) where she participates in advisory meetings to provide insight on student-athlete experiences and offer input on rules, regulations, and policies. She has been a team leader on and off the court for the Varsity Women’s Tennis team volunteering with the Havard Boys and Girls club, the Rattler Alumni Association, Morgan’s Wonderland, Habitat for Humanity, as well as free community tennis clinics at Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex.


ITA Rookie of the Year

Salma Djoubri | Lynn University

Division II Women's ITA Rookie of the Year

Salma Djoubri from Lynn University has been named the 2023 ITA Rookie of the Year. Djoubri finished the 2022-23 season with a 15-4 overall record in singles play and a 16-5 overall record in doubles play. She posted seven singles wins over ranked opponents, including six victories against players ranked inside the Top-25 of the ITA Singles Rankings. She was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year, and was selected to the All-SSC First Team.


ITA Most Improved Senior

Marta Vicens Miquel | Saint Leo University

Division II Women's ITA Most Improved Senior

Marta Vicens Miquel from Saint Leo University has been named the 2023 ITA Most Improved Senior. Vinvens Miquel has reached new heights in her final season with the Saint Leo program. Her overall record this season in singles is 28-8 and she holds a dual match record of 17-5. She also was named to the Sunshine State Conference All-Conference First Team in both singles and doubles and reached career-high rankings in both singles and doubles this year.


ITA Senior Player of the Year

Elodie Busson | Hawaii Pacific University

Division II Women's ITA Senior Player of the Year

Elodie Busson from Hawaii Pacific University has been named the 2023 ITA Senior Player of the Year. Busson helped lead the Sharks to a Semifinal finish at the 2023 NCAA Championships, capping off a decorated career at Hawaii Pacific. Undefeated in singles play against NCAA Division II opponents this season, Busson has notable wins over players from Barry, UIndy, North Georgia, and Azusa Pacific. Busson has been the heart of the Hawaii Pacific team and its leader – through her work ethic, her attitude, and her ability to make the team have fun.
