Job Summary:

Newberry College is looking for a Graduate Assistant who wants to join a professionally run, nationally ranked NCAA Division II tennis program. The Graduate Assistant Tennis Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Tennis Coach in various aspects of coaching and managing the university’s tennis program. This position is designed for a graduate student pursuing a degree while gaining practical
experience in coaching and athletic administration. The Graduate Assistant Tennis Coach will assist with player development, training sessions, competition preparation, and administrative tasks related to the tennis program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Head Tennis Coach in planning and conducting tennis practices, workouts, and training sessions for the team.
  2. Help in the development and implementation of practice plans, including drills, conditioning exercises, and skill development activities.
  3. Provide individualized coaching and feedback to student-athletes to enhance their technical skills, tactical understanding, and overall performance.
  4. Assist with the recruitment process, including identifying prospective student-athletes, evaluating talent, and maintaining communication with recruits and their families.
  5. Support the Head Tennis Coach in administrative tasks, such as scheduling, record-keeping, and communication with team members, staff, and other departments.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a graduate program at the university
  • Previous playing experience in tennis at the collegiate or competitive level is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with student-athletes, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a passion for coaching and developing student-athletes.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel with the team when necessary.
