New HYTEs
About New HYTEs
New HYTEs’ flagship year-round after school program serves 40 students ages 7–16 from 16 New Haven Public Schools. Two-thirds of our scholars come from low-income households and one-third are from bilingual families. Full scholarships are provided to all participants. Our program combines tennis development, academic enrichment, and character building to equip students to succeed in both school and life. Our after-school program was created in 2008 by the Yale University varsity tennis coaches and has operated under the auspices of New HYTEs since the fall of 2011. New HYTEs is a chapter of the USTA Foundation’s National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) network.
New HYTEs Mission: To enrich the lives and positively affect the futures of New Haven’s economically disadvantaged youth through a program that incorporates life skills curriculum and academic supports, and promotes both character building and the health benefits of participation in athletics through tennis.
