Started in the fall of 2018, our National Junior Tennis & Learning Chapter, TeamFAME, provides out-of-school activities to help change the lives of the underserved community of Newport. We center our programming around our Core Four Standards of Success: Character Education, Academic Enrichment, Health and Wellness, and Tennis and Learning. TeamFAME programming aims to help our students reach their goals, learn new skills, and lead purposeful lives. In addition to the current group of 52 middle school students participating in our TeamFAME program, we provide free tennis outreach programming to over 500 Newport students annually.

The VISTA fellow working with TeamFAME will specifically help grow our Tennis Outreach Program. Through coordination with our local community partners such as the Dr. Martin Luther King Community Center, Pell Elementary School, and the Newport Boys and Girls Club, our TeamFAME VISTA will plan and develop curriculum, populate and train volunteers, and oversee the tennis programming for our Tennis Outreach Program. This program will bring tennis to over 200 unique K-4th grade students in Newport County. 

In addition to this, our TeamFAME VISTA will work with our 5th-8th grade NJTL, TeamFAME, in order to further build our academic and enrichment educational resources, mentorship program, and college/career readiness programs. Through the VISTA program, our TeamFAME VISTA will learn how to create and implement tennis and educational systems that will have a positive impact on Newport students for many years to come.
