Honfleur, France – Up against the host nation at the 2022 Master’U BNP Paribas Championships, Team USA had to show lots of resilience and rely on some strong doubles play in order to down France and advance to tomorrow’s Finals.

After relying on a strong singles showing in the opening round against Germany, the Americans had to rely on their doubles play in today’s Semifinal match, needing at least two doubles victories after dropping both doubles points to France.

In singles, Connie Ma (Stanford) handled business once again today, winning in straight sets over Clarisse Aussert from the No. 2 women’s singles position. At the top spot, Fiona Crawley (North Carolina) showed lots of fight, coming back after dropping the first set to earn her second singles win of the tournament.

On the men’s side, both Stefan Dostanic (USC) and Ryan Seggerman (North Carolina) couldn’t come out on top in their singles matches. Dostanic dropped a close three-set match to Louis Dussin at the No. 1 position, while Seggerman fell to fellow NCAA student-athlete Francois Musitelli (Kentucky) in straight sets from the No. 2 position.

Now tied at two points apiece, Team USA now needed a big showing in the doubles portion of play which they struggled with the day before against Germany.

However, rising to the occasion, the United States was able to win both the men’s and women’s doubles point to secure the victory and their spot into tomorrow’s Finals at the Master’U Championships.

In women’s doubles, Haley Giavara (Cal) and Ma teamed up once again and were able to win the big points en route to the 7-6, 7-6 doubles victory. Dostanic and Seggerman were the pairing today on the men’s side for Team USA and immediately showed their chemistry winning 7-5, 7-6 over the French representatives.

Team USA will now play in their third-straight Finals at the Master’U BNP Paribas Championships. The United States will be up against Great Britain in the Championship match which is a familiar foe for the Americans, having won the only Championship outside of Team USA in the past ten events.
